POMINI Long Rolling Mills obtains the final acceptance from Acciaierie Valbruna

  • Mill functions automated to improve the operational safety
  • Removed slowdowns and improved rolling process control
  • Smoother production flow with consistent high quality

In September 2021 Acciaierie Valbruna S.p.A. issued the Final Acceptance Certificate of the modernization project of the T460 rolling mill located in Vicenza (Italy). The contract had been awarded originally to Primetals Technologies Italy, the preceding company of POMINI Long Rolling Mills, in consortium with Automazioni Industriali Capitanio S.r.l.

The rolling mill T460 is specialized in producing small and varying batches of round, square, flat, angle and hexagonal bars in stainless steels, duplex steels, nickel-alloys and titanium; the products meet the highest technical requirements of the market.

The multi-phase modernization included new motorized systems for the roll gap adjustment of the existing 3-hi rolling stands, motorized bar manipulating systems, a cantilever edging stand, an abrasive-disk cutting station, hydraulic shears with accessories.

The target of the project was to automate the mill functions so to increase the operational safety, to remove the slowdowns and to improve the rolling process control for a smoother production flow with consistent high quality. The upgrades to the rolling mill, in particular, eliminate the need to have operators close to the operating equipment, which advantages the safety of personnel.

Established in 1925, Acciaierie Valbruna SpA is a private group with an annual output of approximately 250,000 metric tons of specialty steels. One of the leading manufacturers of long products in stainless steels, nickel-alloys and titanium, Acciaierie Valbruna focuses in particular on stainless steels and specialty alloys, which are produced in blooms and billets, ingots, round, square, flat, hexagonal and angle bars, wire rod, wire, reinforcement bars and threaded rods. The products meet the demanding standards of industries such as aerospace, automotive, chemical and petrochemical industries, energy and others. The group has four production facilities in Italy, USA and Canada.

Part of Callista Group, POMINI Long Rolling Mills S.r.l. is based in Marnate (Varese, Italy) and specializes in the design, construction, installation and start-up of plants for the hot rolling of long products such as bars, commercial profiles, sections, rails and wire rod.
