POMINI Long Rolling Mills supplies new shearing equipment to Gerdau North America
POMINI Long Rolling Mills has received a contract from Gerdau Special Steel Monroe for the supply of a new intermediate shearing unit. The unit will serve to crop the head and tail ends of the bar, and to scrap it in case of emergency. The project is part of the ongoing customer's plan for the upgrade and expansion of the mill.
The contract includes a crank-type shear which will be installed in lieu of the existing unit supplied by POMINI Long Rolling Mills in the 1990s. The shear will provide the adequate cutting forces and speeds to process Gerdau Monroe's feedstocks at the required production rates and process temperatures. Driven by electric motor with start/stop sequences, the new shear will also improve the tail cut precision, as required by the cut optimization.
Also comprised in the supply are a pneumatically-operated trap device to collect the crops, an assisting pinch roll to precisely drive the bar into the shear, the oil lubrication system, the main motors and drives, sensors and equipment for automation integration in the existing L1 system.
POMINI Long Rolling Mills will also provide advisory services for erection and commissioning. The commissioning of the project is expected during the first half of 2025.
